Happy National Daughter’s Day, Katelynn Marie!

My Dearest Katelynn,

I knew I wanted to have another baby, but, I didn’t know that it was you that I needed until God placed you in my heart. From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I prayed for you… I asked God to bless me with a healthy little Girl. One to call my own, one whose heart would love and know Jesus. One with ten little toes, ten little fingers, and gorgeous eyes with beautiful long lashes like her Father. One whose head was filled with locks of curls, with a personality like her Lolo Rudy, and with the sass and determination of her Mom, Purita. A little girl who would grow-up brave, independent and one who would make a difference in the lives of many. One who would keep me on my toes, one whose eyes saw the beauty in everything she saw. One who could rough it up with the boys.

And, then you were born. The day you were born you changed everything. You made it known that you marched to the beat of your own drum, that you were born with a purpose, that you are strong and courageous. The moment I held you, Katelynn, I knew that you were the missing piece to our puzzle. You completed our Family.

As you continue to get older, I hope you never lose that twinkle in your eye, I pray that you continue to look at the world as magical and beautiful as you see it, I pray that you continue to keep everyone on their toes with your personality and spunk. I know you’re eager to share your talents and skills with the world, but, in all honesty, the world isn’t ready for you yet. ;]

Thank you, my little Gremlin for blessing us with your grace. We love you more than you’d ever know.

Love,

Mommy

HAPPY 9TH BIRTHDAY, SKYLER & FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL COMPLETE!

Hello & Happy August 13!

First things first, I hope you are well! It’s already 13 days into August, and I feel like I am barely just catching my breath! Whew! The Kiddos had their first week of school, and unlike many other schools, they started on August 6th! It is a new school for them, and so far they love it! Spencer always gets a little separation anxiety, so he has been shedding some tears everytime we part in the morning. Talk about Mom guilt!

In other news, today is Skyler’s 9th Birthday! Yes, you read that right, I said NINE! =( What?! When did my oldest get so big?! Ugh, every year I am just in awe of how much he has indeed grown. It’s exciting to see his personality change and see how he conducts himself.

I mention this often, and a lot of you have shown interest in my story. And, I promise, it’s coming to you very soon. I got pregnant unexpectedly with Skyler. A moment that I didn’t think I was ready, nor prepared. But, God had other plans for me, and he knew Skyler is just what I needed to change for the better.

When I look back at the past 9 years, I can’t even imagine what my life would be like without SSK. Especially Skyler. I look at him, and I beam with pride. Every time I feel defeated or exhausted. I look at Skyler. He reminds me that I had overcome every obstacle, obstacles that I thought I would never have to face. He was the light at the end of my darkest tunnel. A tunnel I never saw myself coming out of. Skyler indeed brought a whole new meaning to my life, he not only made me a Mom but, he changed me.

As you can imagine, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I had Skyler. I was just freshly 20, I was in the middle of my college semester and still trying to figure out how to adult. But, Skyler was my saving grace. He made motherhood, somewhat comfortable. His positive attitude, willingness to try new things and his unwavering forgiveness is nothing but a blessing. Moments when I felt like a total failure or in moments when I couldn’t afford certain things, Skyler reminded me that everything was always going to be okay. He was understanding of our hardships and always brought positivity into it.

Now, that he is 9, I swear his attitude is much more mature than mine at times. He amazes me. He is a kind, compassionate soul. It’s bittersweet seeing him grow. And, I’m beyond excited to see what the future has in store for him.

So, today folks, although its bittersweet that my baby is no longer a baby — I am excited to celebrate him! Don’t forget to wish Skyler a Happy Birthday in the comments below ;] he loves reading comments! And, as always, thank you for being a part of the GP5 family!

How SIR Learned to Work Hard

Hello, GP5 fam! (get it? GuerreroPartyof5 aka GP5) 😜

How crazy is it that January is quickly ending and February is literally right around the corner! Whaat?! And, since Winter is almost over, We said goodbye to the 60’s and welcomed back the high 80’s here in AZ. 😂

I know, I know I can feel my non-AZ folks hardcore rolling their eyes at me. I get it, AZ barely gets cold. I mean to me, I’m freezing and I was born in the East Coast & raised in the Midwest 🙋🏻‍♀️ you’d think I could easily handle the low 50’s and not flinch. PSYCH! My teeth are chattering & I need to wear like 7 layers! 😅

Anyways, the moral of todays blog post is working hard! Now, as a Parent I try my absolute best to encourage my kiddos to work hard! Sometimes that’s easier said than done. I try to lead by example, if I want or need something done I have to show them to set goals & work towards them. Even if that means facing obstacles, overcoming them or even failing & getting back-up again. Thankfully, I’ve had numerous of these said scenarios and they’ve seen me at the best and worst moments while trying to achieve my goals.

Even if that’s completely falling apart & eating gallons of ice cream or drinking lots of wine. 🤣

If you can remember in the beginning of SIR’s hockey journey, I was hesitant about even letting him play! This was because SIR was all talk & no action. He kept saying he wanted to play but, showed little to know interest. Thankfully, we were given the opportunity to put him in a program that lets you try-out hockey before making the leap! Learn more about this program – HERE! Now, don’t forget that hockey alone is a pricey sport! We told Skyler we were putting him in this trial program to really see if he liked the sport! We told him we were willing to invest our time & money into hockey but, we wanted to see effort in him to ensure that we weren’t wasting our time or money.

Skyler, of course made us eat our words. He worked-hard every time he got on that ice, really took in what his Coaches were teaching & really did his absolute best each time! We were surprised. Cause first of all, we didn’t think our 8 year old would show us up, but, he did 😅 and we are glad he did! After his trial period, he proved to us that he was dedicated to the sport & was being responsible about his borrowed equipment. We decided to buy him brand new gear and signed him up for hockey classes. Again, Skyler continued to work hard and better himself in the sport.

A year into the sport and he is still working hard! I’ve personally seen a great improvement in SIR! He recently has been fond of playing goalie. Mind you, goalie equipment has an even heftier price tag than the sport itself! Again, we told Skyler of our rules. We are willing to support him and his endeavors as long as he can show us that he will continually work hard towards his goals and improve his skills.

And, although he hasn’t trained in being a goalie or played the position long. He practices EVERYDAY after homeschool. And, I literally mean — EVERYDAY. After our 4 hour sessions of homeschooling, Skyler will always grab his gear and rollerblades and skate in the house or out the house. Stick in hand & shooting a few pucks into the door or net. After that, he just skates back and forth – yes in the house and even outside. Once his brother is home he positions himself in front of the net and practices blocking and stopping!

Seriously, I couldn’t even make this up if I tried 🙌🏼 I told him I’d see if we can get some ice practice for him to do some goalie drills and really try it out! He looks forward to practices and games and he really proves to us that he is determined to play the game and loves the sport! 🤗 and, it also makes him very happy! Which is number 1 in our book! You gotta LOVE what you do! Tonight’s Monday night practice was a knee slapper. See, this past weekend SSK spent the night at Grandma’s. Which meant hockey bag was left in the car until Monday morning (gross, I know). This morning I had SIR empty out his bag, air out his gear, toss his jersey/socks/cup in the wash and disinfect everything. And, little man did just that. After hours of drying out & washing he packed up his gear like I asked him too and we headed for the rink.

When we arrived at the rink he looked at me and asked if I grabbed the jersey, cup & socks. 🤔😳 and, we both looked at each other and ripped open his bag only to realize we forgot said items in the dryer. 🙄 thankfully, Coach Kurt/Little Kurt had spare socks for us to borrow & Coach Larry had a spare jersey & Coach Ben kindly gave us clear tape to keep the socks on! Phew! Thankful for our hockey Family! 😂🙏🏼SIR started practice a bit rough, but, after a few drills I could tell he was ready to focus. During practice they got to play a mini-game against each other. And, well of course SIR skated over to the goalie net! I’ll just let you watch how little man did 😜 (Skyler, is in black jersey/yellow socks).

I mean come on! My kid is such a bad ass 😂🙌🏼 He seriously proves to me each time that if he sets his mind on something he will work hard and get it done! 👍🏼

I’ll continue to update you on his new journey to become a goalie and maybe he will get that new gear that he has been asking us for! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you have a story about working hard, if so, I wanna hear em! 🙋🏻‍♀️🤗 Please share and Comment your story 🙏🏼 below!

Why, We Decided To Homeschool

Happy 2018 our Dear Readers! I know we have been MIA these past few months, as we revamped and changed our brand. We are still ironing out the kinks! So, please be patient.

This past year has been a complete whirlwind and as I had mentioned in a previous blog post — this ONE to be exact. Skyler was struggling in his studies. We completely burned him out at his former school. He would be at school from 7am to 4:30pm. He had to attend tutoring after school and would come home drained. We would spend hours on homework and he would be beyond frustrated.

After several, attempts of after-school tutoring,  We reached out to some nearby tutoring services. Seven days out of the week my 3rd grader was just studying constantly. I could see the little light left in Skyler’s eye slowly disappear, he hated studying, he hated learning, and He started to dread school.

I met with his third-grade team and during this meeting, I felt defeated as a Parent. I listened to all the Teachers speak on how Skyler was slowly improving. But, it was barely passing. He was making strides but, it wasn’t fast enough for an accelerated school. I didn’t blame the school, nor the staff. They did everything they could, I didn’t blame Skyler cause he did everything he could on his end. And, it certainly wasn’t my fault because I reached out to every resource I had. This simply was nobody’s fault. But, I couldn’t help but cry as I felt like I had failed.

We realized together, that Skyler had a better learning environment one-on-one. Although, Skyler had no learning disabilities and worked great with his class. The courses were moving too fast for him. I decided that homeschool would be the best option for my 8-year-old.

Now, homeschool for me sounded terrifying! I worked 2-3 days at the hospital during the week, I had to hold back my hours so that I could focus on Skyler’s education. I withdrew Skyler from school the week before Thanksgiving break. I went to our county and submitted my affidavit with an intent to homeschool.

I’m grateful I have friends who homeschool their kids, and they were A LOT of help! They shared their favorite learning resources as well as curriculums they loved! I was able to meet and engage with other fellow homeschooling Mom’s in my area and they were a lot of help as well. There was a lot of trial and error and we were able to find a great curriculum for Skyler that we absolutely loved and worked best for us! I’ll share the curriculum we used in a future post.

He has been improving and loving school again! Our goal is to bring him back into the school system for his 4th grade. That’s if he is ready. We are in no rush. Spencer, stayed at his school as it is a prime fit for him. Since winter break is officially over we spent the day reviewing and doing math and language arts as well as reading. We will be tackling Science and Social Studies later this afternoon.

How were your Holidays and New Year? Let me know!

How My November Started

Hello!

You’re probably thinking I must’ve quit life & stayed in Hawaii! Although, I wish I could. I really can’t do that. Cause you know, life. LOL! It’s officially November! Where is time going?! October started out slow and it sped up fairly quickly.

Here are a few quick updates:

  • Skyler and Spencer switched schools and are LOVING it!
  • Spencer’s soccer team is currently UNDEFEATED!
  • Skyler got to play during intermission in the Coyotes vs Hurricanes game (video to come)!
  • I have a Hawaii video that I’m currently editing (will be out soon!)
  • Skyler will be playing in extra hockey games this month! Stoked!
  • Successfully did the 10 year HS reunion!
  • November is officially BIRTHDAY month!

… Ready for the rundown?!

After fall break, Skyler & Spencer switched schools and the curriculum is a lot more challenging but, beneficial for them! Spencer is in first grade and learning the 2nd/3rd-grade material. Skyler is in third grade and learning the 4th/5th-grade material. Spencer is doing fabulous! Acing it and enjoys the challenge. Skyler understands it and just needs tutoring to help him in certain subjects. Otherwise, both boys are loving it, and getting used to the work! I, on the other hand, I need tutoring for all these assignments! LOL!

Spencer’s been KILLING it in soccer! I can’t even explain his demeanor on the field. He is a whole different child on the field vs off! LOL! In a good way, the kid loves the game — and if I let him he would do it all day, every day! He will be doing another season of soccer, but who am I kidding, the kid found his sport. So, I’m sure he will be doing it year round (If I can find a league).

Skyler has been making more strides in hockey! He made several goals during the Yotes game and caught that on video. (Also, editing). I am just an editing minefield right now. I have so many drafts in my folder, that need editing and to be posted. LOL! He has been doing great in his games, a lot of assists and great defense! The boys are finding a great balance between school work and sports. They know the rule, if grades start to slip, sports will be put on hold.

Hawaii is beautiful. Kauai is beautiful. There truly aren’t enough words to describe it. Being there I just felt like there was no care in the world! We plan on going back again next year, except we are bringing the tribe! It’s going to be epic! My Hawaii video is a little over 20 minutes, I’m really trying to trim it down. LOL — so it’s taking a while. We ate a lot, swam a lot, and conquered a lot of fears! It was just breathtaking, I can’t wait to share that video!

Skyler this month will be playing in two other jamborees or hockey events this month! We are so excited as he gets to meet and mingle with other 8U kids! He had a blast getting to play at different venues and loves being able to see his friends outside the rink. My schedule is super packed, but happy kids, happy mom!

I successfully planned and executed the 10-year high school reunion that I was planning for over a year! It turned out great and it was exciting to see familiar faces and can’t wait to plan the 20 years! I plan on hanging out with my former classmates prior to the 20 years! haha!

And, lastly, NOVEMBER!! It’s officially birthday month for half my household! My birthday is tomorrow! 29 and feeling fine! LOL — give me a break, I can’t rhyme right now. But, I’m stoked to be almost 30! Spencer is a week after mine, and a few days later is Ric’s. Then we will be celebrating Kate in December as well as the holidays in-between!

I have a lot of vLog footage that will be up this weekend! Keep an eye out for it!

Mahalo,

Soccer Vs. Hockey The Ultimate Show Down

Hello!

Happy Sunday – I’m a day or two off and next weeks schedule will be video filled! So keep an eye out for that!

We are getting over colds in our household and a huge deep clean of the house! It’s game day in our household and here are the stats!

Spencer’s 5U soccer team is currently UNDEFEATED! Woohoo! They’re at 2 wins, the first game they won 15-0 & today’s game was a 13-6!

Skyler-Ian’s team has 3 wins and a draw! Woohoo! We also have some exciting news to share with Skyler about his hockey journey. We will announce it in the next few months! ;]

It officially falls break in our household & the start of a new (old) school after the week is over! This fall break the kiddos are spending it with Mom aka Grandma! Cause the parents (aka Hubby & I) are off on our Hawaii vacation! (thanks, Discount Tire)!

I have a lot of fun videos coming out this weekend & next week! So make sure to stay tuned!

Hugs from an (overly) tired Mom,

How My Aunt Celebrated Her 50th Birthday!

Happy September 25th my lovelies! I hope you are all enjoying this last week of SEPTEMBER! (Say What?!) I know, I missed my blog post on Friday (don’t remind me). This weather is my absolute FAVORITE! High 80’s and low of 70’s, its complete perfection!

Last week, we had soccer practice and a hockey game! All went smoothly and the boys are enjoying their sports! My only struggle is keeping a toddler entertained throughout the whole thing! LOL — she really doesn’t pay attention and she cheers regardless! LOL!

Skyler’s team is now undefeated (woot-woot), realistically they’re playing for fun but, low-key the parents are keeping tabs! (ahem – like me ahem). Spencer starts his first soccer game this weekend! And, we are SO excited! LOL

This weekend we also spent with Family for my Aunt’s 50th birthday! It was the cutest to see all the little cousins get together!

How cute is it that the siblings are in matching outfits?! Us Mom’s definitely didn’t plan that! But, we were laughing about it! LOL! The kids always LOVE playing together as they’re all in the same age! Sadly, Kate is the only girl. So, she roughest it up with the boys quite well! When I was younger my cousins and I were really close, so I’m excited to watch them all grow up together!

As always, Uncle Ge-Ar (Jayar) is a fave! Always down to do piggy back rides, or play hide and seek, get candy or just there for carrying a kid around. Crazy how all the boys flocked to him! Love this photo (this was also attempted 1 of like 100).

Kate had a blast and she was dancing up a storm. It was hysterical! I swear if we didn’t pick her up to leave, homegirl would’ve stayed ALL night dancing!

I can’t believe its the last week of September! In exactly 2 weeks, Ric and I will be on the island of Kauai! EEK! So, Ric and I haven’t had a vacation without the kids. If anything we do overnight trips and usually bring 1 kid with us or all 3. We haven’t actually left them alone longer than overnight. So, this will be (terrifying) and exciting. I have complete faith and trust that the kids will have fun at Grandma’s aka Mom! They always do! I am excited to spend time with Ric and just relax and enjoy our week.

Ric and I have not been to Hawaii so we are extremely excited, we chose the most “laid” back island, so we were told. But, we did that on purpose. We aren’t partiers or drinkers, not really into the tourist thing either. We were content with hiking, snorkeling, and just being beach bums. And, eating! Lots of eating!

We are going to start vLogging on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Attempt too at least! Ric told me he didn’t want me working on our trip. Which makes it very hard to do. Haha, work from home struggles!

Anyway’s will update you all Wednesday and will get a video up for you as well!

Hugs,

How I Balance The Boys Sports Schedule

I’m getting very lame with these titles. HAHA! Happy hump day fellow readers! It’s Wednesday! September is quickly moving along and October is right around the corner!

We officially are in full swing on our sports schedule. My only “free” days are Wednesday and Friday! Spencer officially had his first day of soccer practice on Tuesday and LOVED it! He absolutely hated hockey & so we let him pick a sport to try. He chose soccer and absolutely enjoys it! He is eager and excited! I can’t wait for him to flourish in his niche! It also helps that one of his friends is on the same team as him! Spencer was making all his practice shots, and as always we cheered him on (as well as the other kiddos)!

Skyler is just loving hockey! He loves that he has games and practices! He recently got his jersey back and his Coach put their names on the back of the jerseys! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such happy smiles!

Skyler, had a game last Saturday and his team won 9-4 with Skyler scoring no goals, but had 2 assists! Woohoo! The Mom van is in full swing, complete with lawn chairs, umbrellas, strollers, blankets, and anything necessary for games (ice and field). Who would’ve thought? HAHA! I’m setting out to get shirts made for game days! Since game days are on the SAME day back to back. I’m having shirts made one for each child with their number and team on it. Yep, I will be that Mom! ;]

Ric reminded me that we are about less than 2 weeks away from our trip to Hawaii. (Don’t panic)! Cause, I totally don’t have anything ready at this point. That will be a blog on its own before we leave! I’m debating if I should bring my computer or not, and I probably will. I really don’t want to work on my vacation, but, I know I will end up doing so!

Hope your Wednesday is fab! Any plans for Halloween? The kiddos (including dogs) got their costumes last night!

xoxo,

Pink

How I Overcome Exhaustion: Sports Mom Edition

My titles are clever, aren’t they? No, they really aren’t. Especially after the night that I had. And, no it’s not the kind of night you’re thinking. It consisted of tears, hurt, and exhaustion.

I realized I’ve gone through a variety of obstacles, obstacles I merely am not ready for. It’s mentally, physically and emotionally draining. Nonetheless, as a Mom, there are no breaks or time-outs. So, therefore, I must carry on and move forward. This week begins the double sports schedule! Am I ready? No, but, I’m excited about my kids because they’re looking forward to it! My days merely consist of sporting practices throughout the week. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays consist of Hockey and Soccer. Wednesday and Friday are my days “off” if you will. I look at my agenda and it’s merely just covered in highlighter. A variety of highlighter colors, not just one! A color for each category: bills, sports, appointments, functions, and work.

If I could multiply myself to be in a multitude of areas, it would be simpler. But, I’m not able to do that. I’m trying my hardest not to spread myself too thin.

I’m sure once I figure out the scheduling and school schedules on top it will be easier and more fluid. Right now, we are still trying to adjust.

Yesterday, we were invited to a Private event at Wet N’ Wild by Discount Tire! The park was closed off to the public for a few hours (which was SO nice)! No long lines, no overcrowded pools. It was pure bliss.

The kids were excited as we told them the morning of our Sunday, fun day adventure! We have never been to Wet n’ Wild and we have lived here for many years. Strange, I know. The kids enjoyed the wave pool the most, and Skyler LOVED the slides! We barely made height need for any of the slides, to be honest. But, grateful we were able to get him on some.

We finished the night off loving Baby Owen at Aunt Christine’s and Uncle Tho’s. Ugh, it was so cute and sweet seeing Kate love on Owen!

The day was long and it was just exhausting. But, today is a new day meaning hockey practice! That will be fun! Skyler had a game on Saturday and Sharks won 9-6! Woo Hoo, no goals for Sky but he had 2 assists!

I hope you have a fabulous Monday, as fabulous as you are!

Pinky
